Q1. Are there any pre-requisites before attending PMSkills?
A. No, it is open to anyone who must lead or be part of a collaborative project.- just bring an open mind and be prepared
to share all your good and bad project experiences. We recommend that
if possible you do some reading or web research on any subject area that
interests you before you come. See our research
links or booklist
Q2. Are there any prerequisites for Living Systems Thinking?
A. No, it is for people in influential positions in organisations and communities who want to consider some more effective ways of leading innovative programs.
Q3. Do we get a certificate?
A. Yes all who complete a workshop of two or more days get a
framed certificate from Strategic Expertise
Q4. What Course Materials / handbooks do we we get to take away?
A. You get a comprehensive folder which covers the whole course in a way
that allows you to easily go back and review specific topics when you
need to. This includes a disc of forms, project templates, exercises and
other resources.
Q5. Are these workshops assessed against NZQA Unit Standards?
A. No not on the course but you could take evidence of application to
a approved assessor for at least Unit Standards:
7454 - Plan, manage and review projects
9683 - Apply knowledge of group processes in a specific situation
9675 - Facilitate a group to make decisions
9676 - Facilitate a group to recommend solutions to problems
Q6. Can we cross credit this course toward diploma or degree
papers at a University or Polytechnic?
A. No not directly, but we do include a file to allow you to
keep a "record of ongoing learning". With this and evidence
of completing the course you could consider making an RPL (Recognition
of Prior Learning) application to tertiary education providers for exemption
from PM papers in their programmes.
Q8. Will this course prepare me for the PMI PMP certification
examination?
A. This course will cover the principles of project management
and practices described in the PMI PMBOK ( Body of Knowledge) that you
will be required to study for the PMP examination, but our princpal aim
is to give you the practical project skills you need to deliver real outcomes
in your organisation, not to just pass the examination. For those wanting
to proceed to PMP ( The world's most accepted PM qualification), we recommend
you join one of the team learning study groups run almost continuously
by your local PMI chapter / branch. For NZ see www.pmi.org.nz
Q8. Are tea / lunch breaks and food provided on public workshops?
A. Yes, see details of venues in each city. Auckland
Q9. How can you provide such high value at a cost around half
that of many competing courses?
A. Our philosophy is to help you seed PM skills more deeply into your
organisations. Rather than high per person charges we would much rather
encourage you to bring a colleague (effectively two for the price of one),
so that you get better retention, peer support and real outcomes on returning
to your workplace . We keep our overheads down by marketing via the web,
using referrals, using our own premises or hiring excellent classroom facilities in off peak vacation
times, and serving good but simple food.
