PM++ Program Leadership Workshop (2day)

DICONTINUED: PLEASE NOTE THIS WORKSHOP HAS MERGED INTO PMLST (Living System Thinking) and PMAPP (Application Day).

Leading innovative programs that deliver real outcomes

This two day extension workshop is nominally for people who have completed the PMSkills workshop (or have had considerable project management experience and now want to learn to operate more effectively in complex organisational or social program environments involving organic change, uncertainly and complexity. As well as adding more technical tools for project initiation, contract and program management (multiple projects that together deliver outcomes). Its objective is to let you experience the benefits of being in a team that uses its collective wisdom and some new tools to converge on effective decisions. A strong focus on leadership, collaboration and innovation is driven by the use of the Tipu Ake Lifecycle - an Organic Leadership Model for Innovative Projects, Organisations and Communities.

(These new tools are particularly appropriate for those involved in Corporate Strategic Planning, Long Term Community Council Planning (LTCCP), Healthy Cities and other such projects).

This workshop is particular recommended for people who must take a leadership role in programs that involve considerable organisational change or improvement in complex stakeholder situations. Much of the learning is experiential by working as a team on real projects brought in by participants. Our objective is to allow participants to build and experience the immense power of a really effective team that operates at the collective wisdom level; something few people really experience in today's organisational cultures. Your assumptions will be challenged by the different experiences of those from other organisations.

It expands our PM skills workshop content and philosophy, going further into business process re-engineering, process design, change management, leadership styles, team building, team and organisational behaviours, sales/negotiation skills, risk management, quality collaborative processes and multi-project feasibility / prioritisation / portfolio / program management.

(The PMSkills and PM++ workshops are often run back to back for out of town people or others who wish to do both in one session)

The content areas covered include some or all of the following as appropriate dependent on attendees.

Day 1:

  • Team Ground rules - review Tipu Ake values and behaviours to set the scene for the workshop.
  • Principles of contract management that allow you to be in control of cost and performance.
  • Tools for project initiation and prioritisation
  • Some tools for Process Design - to better understand the process our project is trying to improve
  • Decision trees - using an example of a proactive organisation bidding for contracts or funding
  • Decision matrixes - applying them for tender evaluation and other decision making in uncertain environments
  • A Microsoft Project case study - using it as a tool for project modeling at the initiation (feasibility) stage.

Day 2:

  • New tools for organisational visioning, culture development and program management - Tipu Ake ki te Ora
  • Work as a group on a project contributed by a member that will exercise the use of most tools.

This workshop suits those who have a very inquisitive, interactive and reflective learning style. Participants do not just collect content and theory, but experience the benefits working in an effective team that questions individual assumptions and shares knowledge to really understand more about how projects can make new things happen in organisations. (Read feedback from participants).

Please bring along the comprehensive folder of notes you got on the PM Skills workshop. These include a disc of templates and forms is included for future revision.

For scheduled workshop dates . Prices are $660 + GST = $742.50 per two day workshop (see location in schedules)
