PM Skills workshop (2 day)
New skills and tools for leading collaborative projects
  |
This two day workshop will help you understand and use project management tools
and processes many of which form part of the Project Management Institute's (PMI) Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), as applied in their PMP (Project Management
Professional) certification . It also introduces the dimension of project
leadership that will help you and your team be more innovative and effective, particularly for projects that involve partnerships that bridge organisational boundaries. |
|
This workshop suits those who may be either new to Project Management
and looking for skills, or experienced people who want to put more structure
over their informal processes. A wide range of topics are covered in a
short time, so to reduce the chance of information overload and to improve
post course application we recommend that if possible you bring a colleague
along with you. Read feedback from NZ participants
This workshop is run monthly in Auckland (see schedule) with a theme that cycles between Internal projects - organisational and leadership development and Customer projects - engineering, IT, contruction, contracts. An optional application day is normally scheduled after each workshop specifically to allow people from out of town to spend some dedicated time on their own projects with personal support and mentoring, including the use of Microsoft Project if appropriate
(For those involved in projects in organisations and communities that must work with other partners to deliver real outcomes in our world's somewhat chaotic environment, we recommend instead our Living Systems Thinking workshop)
Our PMSkills workshops addresses four key project issues that many organisations
face:
- Organisations need to be highly innovative and agile in our
fast changing and competitive world. The "Management by
Projects" approach of this workshop offers new forms of leadership
to plan projects and motivate others over whom they may not have direct
authority and build partnerships to bridge traditional organisational
and budgeting boundaries.
- Projects start with a need and finish with a satisfied customer
We investigate the nature of projects and the end to end project lifecycle
processes required. Participants learn how to take an idea, proactively
turn it into a project proposal and then implement it.
- Projects seldom exist in isolation. Processes for
managing single large projects are defined within the Project Management
Institute's Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). We extend this to provide new
processes for people from a wide range of technical, government, customer
or service orientated organisations that wish to better manage in a
complex multiple project, multiple partner environment.
- Projects are often late, over budget or under perform. If we
don't know why, we just try to use our old processes over and over again getting the same results..
